Monbulk Primary School

“Education for Learning,
Education for Life”

Brief History

On the 18th of January, 1987, in response to a petition signed by 57 local settlers, State School No. 3265, then the Dandenong Forrest Village Settlement State School, was opened. The building itself was second-hand, the ant-eaten buildings transferred by bullock-wagon to Monbulk from Wellington Road State School in December 1986. The site on which the school was situated was incredibly rough, described by the first head teacher, James B Boyle, as “...in the very heart of the forrest, surrounded by trees 100 feet high...” In 1899, following the establishment of an official post office in the town, the school was re-named Monbulk school. Since then the school has had a long, and occasionally colorful history, facing a measles in 1911, and burning down in 1913. There have also been some more unusual happenings along the way- the establishment of a pool on David street in 1937, the remains of which can still be seen, though the pool itself is now a dam on private property.

Since it's early beginnings, the school has seen many changes. Even today, the school strives to expand and renovate to provide a better working environment for it's pupils, while still retaining it's charm as a small country school. Even if the trees aren't quite 100 feet tall.

Who are we?

We are a small school community, currently offering places to 250 students. Everyone involved with Monbulk Primary School is proud and enthusiastic about our school. We respect children as an important part of the school community and aim to make our school safe, challenging and healthy for all.

“We plan carefully to ensure that children feel safe, secure, valued and listened to.”

Our Curriculum

In providing a challenging learning environment we plan a vigorous academic curriculum, which is individually geared to ensure the best education for each child.
We are committed to provide a healthy, nurturing environment that builds character and invokes pride in self, school and community.
Monbulk Primary School continually takes steps to improve the condition of education for our students. We have long-standing partnerships with both parents and the community, which has proven to be a highly successful and rewarding venture.
These ventures improve the way teachers are prepared, the way schools are run and the way teachers perform. Such associations also positively impact on student performance.

Our Mission Statement

Schools are about learning and the development of attitudes to learning.
Teachers, parents and the wider school community work together to:-
Present a wide range of key knowledge, beliefs and values to the students.
Provide a curriculum range, which is balanced, comprehensive and coherent.
